Stability ball is idea, there are a huge range of exercises you can do that will help reduce your tummy, it is a little strange at first getting used to try to balance but it is loads of fun. Other than that there is the abd crunch but I would recommend using that for the first few weeks until you have got your fitneww levels up. Ask the instructor at the gym to make you up a programme that you can follow and review it every 4-6 weeks.. good luck and I wish you all the best... a fellow dieter xxx
Swim. It exercises more of your muscles but you are also supported by the water so its less stressful on the body than weights.
do crunches..and if a gym is very nessisary any machein because your fat cells become muscel cells
when you get there you should book yourself in for a induction they should be able to run through everything with you and be honest and tell them what your aim is and what areas you want to work on ! they should be able to do you a program to suit your needs, worked for me i wanted to lose "my backside" and i told him and the program they gave me consentrates on toning my rear !
Usually when you join a gym they will give you a personal orientation and trainer who will give you a set of exercises to do. My advice is to read Bill Phillips book Body For Life and check out his website. Good luck.
see if you can get a couple sessions from a personal trainer, when you join, they give a reduced rate to get you started. the trainer could really help you.
the right piece of equipment is one that you'll enjoy and stick with.. ask the front desk if they have a "mentor" program or "workout buddy" program to help you get familiar with the various machines, classes available, and good ways to track your progress.
try out the different classes to get a feel for different types of exercises, plus being in a class is a lot less boring that just walking in a treadmill for 45 minutes.
the staff at the gym will be happy to answer any questions you have because they WANT you to keep coming back so don't be afraid to ask how to use something.
most of all have fun.
Spot reduction doesn't work. Don't think using nothing but ab machines will slender your stomach. You need to burn fat. Training at a good pace without yapping should handle that, or you can add cardio to your routine. Make sure you train all major muscle groups. Overdeveloping some muscles without developing others will cause imbalances that will make you vulnerable to injury and can also cause problems with your posture, spine, nerves, etc.
Buy a heart rate monitor. Determine your maximum heart rate and maintain 70-80% of that for long periods, such as 30 to 40 minutes. It's tough work.
Take advantage of classes your gym offers. Look for spin classes, step, and body pump/group power. These can be brutal, but are well worth the pain.
Remember, you have to actually work to meet your goals.
Good on you for joining Weightwatchers! It really does work doesn't it? I've lost a stone and a half since mid-May.
For excercise I'd say sit ups and crunches and get one of those gym balls to use at home, just sitting on it watching telly helps (see this months WW magazine) and will also improve posture and pelvic muscles which may have gone a bit floppy after having 2 babies! Swimming is good but stick to front and back crawl, breast stroke can let everything sag.
Keep up the good work!
gyms can help and good for you to join =]
i have some bad news. your stomach is the last place to lose fat
you will want to be doing cardio for at least a half an hour at max heart rate
you are already on your way with the weight watchers because it is important to eat right.. but you shouldnt just measure your progress by how much you weigh because muscle weighs 3 times more than fat so maybe try measuring your waist
and how you feel
use abdominal machines with a mild wieght but do alot of reps
this will cause you to become nice and tone with out becomming buff (where you would use heary weights for a short time)
you could also do circuts.. on maching for 2-3 minutes then move to the next one and keep going around
if you ever cant figure out how to use something DO NOT GO BY WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE DOING lol ask a trainer because it is likely that someone could be exercising bad habits which you do not want to start
have fun

Exercise with weights and do low impact fat burning on stationary bike or treadmill. You cannot spot fat lose. You can train your stomach muscle but if it has fat on top, it will still have fat on top. Look up this book called Atomic Fitness by Steve Michalik. He gives you the science of losing FAT and building a better body.
Motivation is the most important thing. Consult a personal trainer first, then do lots of light weight to tone your muscle. You should do ab-routine three times a week. Don't forget your cardio last. This will really lose your weight and loosen your muscle when you do light weight. Good luck and have fun. It is your body, not mind. The choice is yours if you want to look good or be a Victoria Secret model. You go to the gym and play your game. Some people can lift weight heavy some are not. But you go to the gym for yourself, not for me. Your choice....your body
When joining a gym you usually have to have an induction with one of the trainers, your best bet is to ask them, they are trained and will know the best excercise for your tummy.
