due to my last Q-do our bodies burn more energy in cold weather?

if its true why most ppl from the countries which are in hot weather zone look alot skinnier than ppl who live in cold weather countries?

Answers:
Actually that is a little false.

Your body temperature is governed by your thyroid gland. and if your eating habits are exactly the same if youare living in canada and then move to florida i promise you you will lose weight a few poungs..
because the temperature in florida is always hot, your body temperature burns energy to keep you cool and helps speed up your metablism just enough to help shed fat to keep you cool..

In harsh winters its the opposite. your thyroid gland decreases your metablism making weight loss harder when you are cold so you can use your body fat to stay warm..

Think of it like this.

You see the really skinny kid shivering in the water during swimming. while the chubby kid isn't.

make sense. well i know it does, i studied it in anatomy

They are outdoors and active a lot more.
it depends on Diet and Genes. in colder weather we burn more energy because the body will try harder to maintain homeostasis. 36-0 is harder to maintain than 36-28 right? in cold weather people tend to eat more and less excercise, so that could also contribute to what you are saying.
Yes, we burn more energy to keep warm in cold weather.
Perhaps people who wear more revealing clothing in warmer climes keep their bodies thinner as they wish to appear more attractive ..
While I don't think there is anything published on this. There are several reasons for this that I believe.

1) Fat people have more insulation (fat) so they tend to seek cooler climates, where the opposite is true for fit people. I always freeze when I go to my Dad's house. He is overweight.

2) Fat people like to hide their bodies, whereas fit people are OK revealing it. Again, more clothes are required up north.

3) while it is true that you burn more calories staying warm vs cooling down, it really isn't a factor with AC and heat in homes and buildings. So you need to look at other prevailing factors.

When it is nice outside you can exercise more than when there is snow. Moreover, you feel more like exercising when it is nice out. Living in MN, most of my life I saw this to be the case.

I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.

Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!
