I've heard that you can use small pieces of a margic eraser to clean stains off of teeth, is this safe//true?

No, most stains can be removed professionally with a prophy jet at your dentist. The best way to describe it is like Pressure washing yout teeth, unless of course the stains are internal, they may not polish office, Some meds can cause staining of teeth.
