Is it better to use mouthwash before or after brushing?

My concern is the sodium saccarine that is in my mouthwash, I don't know if that's a type of sugar that can cause cavities, and I've been prone to cavities in the past so I'm trying to avoid them by being more conscious of my oral hygiene.

You *can* pre-rinse with a plaque-removing rinse like Plax, which will make the gunk in your mouth easier to brush off.

As for your mouthwash, saccharine won't cause cavities; the bacteria don't break it down. So after is fine. Rinsing afterwards also strengthens your gums and kills bacteria which might cause irritation if brushing causes them to bleed.

After brushing - that way you eradicate germs that were near the gums as you have brushed them away. if you see what I mean - gurgle! Sploosh!
Use a strong mouth wash before brushing. Best product is Listerine mouthwash.

depends on the mouthwash, if you are using act then after you brush cause it has flouride in it to help keep fighting cavities

After unless it's supposed to be used before. It'll say on the bottle. Mouthwash is supposed to prevent cavities not cause them.
you want to rinse with mouthwash after brushing, you don't mop a floor first then sweep after mopping it do you?

The best mouthwash is ACT and it also has flouride in it. So rinse with ACT and do not rinse it out afterwards. Do not drink or eat until at least 30 minutes after rinsing. The flouride will put a coating on your teeth to help prevent cavities.

I use that Biotene after I brush. It' really good. You can get it at Wal-Mart. Besure to read the directions because you don't swallow it . It fights bacteria and promotes healthy teeth and gums.
