Any body have tongue clipped by oral surgeon?
I have a teenage daughter who is tongue-tied. She has no problem whatsoever with her speach or eating etc., but has recently stated that she may like to have her tongue clipped, because it just bothers her at times. (normally the clipping is done at a much younger age if there are speach problems or the like) Our doctor says to go to an oral surgeon. Has anyone had this done at this age, what is it like, how painful is it, how long does it take to heal, etc.?
Answers:
Do not have it done. My son is tongue tied and his speech is fine. If the tongue is cut your daughter will have to learn how to talk again. She will have to learn how to place her tongue in order to form words again. My nephew is also tongue tied, but his speech was affected so they clipped it. He was 8 years old. He is having the hardest time relearning his words. He is 10 now and still has speech therapy. He gets teased. Tell your daughter there are exercises that help stretch your tongue. And to just be happy that it did not affect her speech. Good luck in whatever you choose.
she probably be put to sleep
yes it's painful, it takes long to heal, and it's prone to infection.
They would put her under general anesthesia, if there is no problem with speech or eating, you may not have to do this.
a regular surgeon can do the tongue clipping ,my son at the age of 2 had it done ,they numb the area and use a special tool so they don`t go to far. heals in about 7-10 days.there will be some bleeding but not a lot stop on the way home and buy Popsicle's
to help with the pain and blood, the more Popsicle's she eats and holds under her tongue in the first 24 hours the better if she does this she will not have much swelling. good luck
