Missing Patches of Taste Buds on Tongue?

So for the last 3 months, I have been having a problem with my tongue. It seems that one day i wake up in the morning and the left side of my touch has a small patch of taste buds missing. Then it grows bigger and bigger (only left side) then it heals. Then it reappears again. It seems that I might be grinding my tongue in my sleep but I have bought a night guard and it seemed to help very little. I had a killer sore throat for about 3 weeks before this started. My tongue is also a little white and dry. Could I be grinding my tongue in my sleep? the missing patches of buds shows trails of my teeth dragging against it but I feel no pain or bleeding at all. Also the missing patches stretch high and cover most of my left tongue so it musnt be my grinding.
Answers:    YES IT IS THAT YOU ARE BITING YOUR TONGUE IN YOUR SLEEP, THIS IS USUALLY BROUGHT UPON BY STRESS. THIS WILL PRESENT AS A WHITE KERATOTIC ROUGHENED AREA ON THE LATERAL BORDER AND WILL SCRAPE OFF.

IF IT IS THRUSH OR CANDIDIASIS IT WILL ALSO PEEL OFF BUT LEAVE RED PATCES OF BLEEDING UNDER IT.

YOU SHOULD GO AND HAVE THE DENTIST SEE IT.
