Wisdom teeth removal?

I don't have my wisdom teeth yet but they are coming i can feel them in my gums. I'm afraid to have them removed because i've heard stories about how some people have died because the doctors drugged them up so they wouldn't feel any pain and left them alone and the person choked to death or something like that. I don't want that to happen to me. I'm scared. Can anyone give me any advice on this subject?

It's a part of life that you can't pass. They'll come and they will go. It will hurt like hell when they come out but you won't die. I am 27 and only one of mine has sprouted from my gums. The other 3 are in hiding still. I dredd the day they will need to come out but as I said they come and they go.

If you have insurance for your teeth, and your dentist has recommended them being removed, then go for it and relax.
That is NOT true. You get to either be numb or be drug and fall asleep. If your afraid that you'll die during this operation, then take the numb one. You'll always be awake and the dentist will always be by your side.
i had mine taken out they put u to sleep and u dont even knowabout it untill 2 to 3 hours later then it start to hurt but they give u some pain pills to help out but cheack out the doc first

I had all 4 + 2 others at the same time. its cool some pain but codine helps, before you know it it will be a memory
You will need someone to wait in the waiting room anyway (to drive you home) so find an oral surgeon who will let them be in the room with you the entire time you are under.
when they first come in they are shallow, so you only need local anesthesia. and don't go to Western dental i hear they are the ones that do bad things like that.but it is best to get them out when they are first in as they can grow over the years and after age 40 can cause jaw paralysis should they need to be pulled .Sleep on your side and put an ice bag on your face. i brought a bag with ice i crushed with me on my last one, to use right away
I just had my wisdom tooth removed (2nd one), and you will be numbed on the part where your wisdom tooth is, but you don't have to be under general anasthesia. So you will be aware what the dentist is doing without feeling the pain. It's not a lot of pain at all, some swelling that will last 3-5 days, and inconvenience of not being able to eat hard to chew food.

Don't worry about it, it's really not that painful, especially if you're still a teenager cause the tooth is easier to remove than if you're above 25 years old.
Ok, I had the exact thing happening a couple weeks ago. I thought I would never have to worry about it but all of a sudden I could feel them poking through my gums. So I decided to make an appt to get them taken out and sure enough before the surgery all the myths started rolling in from my friends and coworkers. Everyone seems to have horrible memories about when they had theirs taken out. I was scared to say the least. BUT the fear of having my straight teeth move back to their pre-braces state was a good enough reason to go forward with the surgery.
The entire process was a walk in the park. I was put partially under anesthesia and don't remember much at all. It took maybe one hour and I was at home with my pain killers and anti biotics. Seriously, I went to work after two days of rest and was fine.
My conclusion is that most of the people I know had the surgery when they were little kids and their memory is a little off on the entire process/pain that they went through. Just get it done, you'll be fine ;)
If your afraid that you'll die during this operation, then just take the numb one. Although the next day i'm sure you'll feel like i did (if you went to the dentist or if you got hit by a truck)
Calm down. Talk about your fears with your dentist and oral surgeon. Maybe your wisdom teeth will come in properly. Mine didn't, I had oral surgery and I looked liked a chipmunk for two weeks after the surgery.. That was way back in 1979. It was inconvenient but worth the trouble. My son did the same last year, but he looked fine after one day (a good girlfriend and anti-swelling medications helped). Dental and oral surgery technology is vastly superior to the old days. If you have qualms, discuss them with your dentist and oral surgeon. As I have already said, possibly your wisdom teeth will come in properly. If not, appreciate that you are dealing with this issue in 2006 instead of 1979 or 1926 or 1812. Or 2000 B.C.
Well you should listen to me, for mine were just taken out 2 days ago. I am fine and alive. Its really sore now and my cheeks look like i put golf balls in there, but i didnt feel anything during surgery. It is also better to have them taken out at a younger age.
