What kind of pain? Any sensitivity to hot or cold? Is the pain excruciating when you lie down, or get up? Does it wake you up at night? Is there any swelling in the area of that tooth, or any other teeth? Sometimes, people feel pain because the tooth just can't heal and may need to be extracted (as you learned with the root canal retreatment, not all root canals are successful. it's possible they may need to remove the crown to adequately fill the tooth; or the your body may just not want to accept having a root canal in this tooh). Others feel pain because the body is trying to help the tooth heal. Do you have any other teeth with a lot of decay, possibly? If so, sometimes the pain from those teeth can be felt in other areas of the mouth, leading you to think it's #28, when in fact, it's #3 or another tooth on the lower right that is bothering you. If you're really concerned, give your endodontist/dentist a call.
