Your teeth move through out your life, and thats exactly what a retainer prevents. You are going to have to wear a retainer for the rest of your life, or you can have surgery to cut the ligatures so they don't move. I had braces when I was 12, and I had them put back on when I was 17 because they moved so much. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!
You must be from America and I envy you - you all have beautiful teeth - if it takes an extra 6 months sweets it is worth it
I had my braces removed 15 yrs ago and I STILL have my retainers. The orthodontist told me that the longer I had them in the better. And my teeth have actually moved a few millimeters from where they were when my braces first came off.
It'll be up to your orthodontist as to when your retainer(s) is(are) removed.
Some people have was is known as a reversal swallow. Have you ever seen a baby when it eats and it pushes the food out with its tongue and you have to keep putting it back in. When they swallow they push their food into their front teeth. People usually out grow it. Some never do. My stepmother has a reverse swallow so it made her buck toothed. She got set of false teeth and they even became buck toothed. Sometimes if it is identified by the dentist early, they can be sent to a physical therapist that will teach them to swallow properly without putting that pressure on the front teeth. Now I don't know if that is your problem. Maybe teeth just have a tendency to want to grow back the way they were. In any case you really should ask your Dentist.
If you wear your retainers as you should, there shouldn't be any problems later
When I got my braces off I was told that I had to wear my retainers for the rest of my life
