i had a root canal to one of my front teeth and its getting dark. what can i do to make it white again?

You can easily make the tooth white again through a process called internal bleaching (sometimes called walking bleach). Consult your dentist. He/she will open the tooth, usually no shot is required, remove any soft, decayed material and place a cotton pellet containing a super concentrated hydrogen peroxide. This is left in place for a period of two to three weeks and depending on how bad the discoloration is, the procedure will be repeated until YOU are satisfied with the shade. It is a simple procedure and there is not any pain. A temporary filling is placed in the back of the tooth at each appointment until the shade of the tooth is to your satisfaction.

A crown may be indicated if there is decay or a large restoration in the tooth. This would not only correct the discoloration, but also insure the structural integrity of the tooth for years to come.

Once it is dark on the inside you can't make it white with out the dentists help. You may be able to have some resin the "white filling" material added to the outside of the tooth to restore a more natural appearance.

Not much, unfortunately. When you have a root canal, or if the tooth is struck a severe blow (such as getting a puck in the mouth in hockey) the dentyne (that's the pulp inside the tooth, and has nothing to do with the gum of the same name) is often traumatized and sometimes it dies. It doesn't do it quickly, but the blood supply deteriorates and the tooth slowly dies. That's what happens when the tooth turns dark.
As the problem is in the interior of the tooth, there is nothing you can do to the exterior that will change it. Your dentist may be able to do some cosmetic surgery, either implanting a false tooth, or some other procedure.
Bottom line: It isn't going to affect you one little bit. You can still keep that great smile. You are likely very conscious of it, but most people won't even notice, so don't spend time worrying about it or you'll get frown lines as well. ;-)
You can't. That happened to MY front tooth after a root canal. I thought I could cover it by having that bonding material over the entire front but it showed through. The tooth is going to also get weaker as time goes on. It will eventually break. Either cap it or you can have a wrap-around veneer applied which should be less expensive. I asked my cosmetic dentist if, since the tooth was going to weaken, if it would protect the tooth as well as a cap would, and he said yes. Good luck!
it's natural for root canaled tooth to darken over time. but it doesn't necessarily need to be crowned or have composites(what some people call bonded) or veneer. if there's enough natural tooth left, the dentist can do what's called internal bleaching. the procedure is quite simple to do.
Ask your dentist about internal bleaching. They place some material inside the tooth to make it whiter for awhile (it's not permanent; you'll have to keep doing it). For a more permanent solution you can either do a crown or a veneer. Talk to a dentist about your options. Good luck
