I just got a mouthguard for my TMJ and I need help!?
I tried wearing it last night for the first time and it was so painful! My other side of my jaw hurt plus my teeth felt like they were sticking out and were really sore. I think my mouthguard is crooked or something. Has anyone had this experience? I couldn't close my mouth correctly because the teeth just weren't lining up right. It caused more pain than it was fixing so I took it out. I know it's going to be uncomfortable but is it supposed to be extremely painful?? WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO.

You may want to hold off on wearing it just for now, wait until you can have an appointment, I have one also and it was painful for about 1 week but it really does sound like yours may need a little adjusting. My jaw just felt kind of like I sung for a very long time or like when you go to the dentist and they do a lot of work to your mouth with a bit in. You have a fitting problem on your hands.
Please go back to your dentist and let them look at it.
Maybe you are supposed to heat it in boiling water and them bite down on it to form to your mouth. If not, try a football style mouthguard that you can do this too.
Mine does not hurt at all. It was uncomfortable at first..but no pain. Did the dentist fit you for the splint (mouthguard)? If so, you need to go back to the dentist. If a dentist didn't fit you..that could be the problem.
There is a chance that one side was not snapped all the way into place, but you are not retarded so you surely thought of that already. Otherwise, I'd say that your dentist is retarded and made a "night guard" without using a proper bite registration and believed that the dental lab good fairies would magically know exactly what position he wanted your jaw in when you wear the appliance. If he just took an impression of you teeth and didn't do a third "mini" impression of how they are supposed to come together, you might make out better with an off-the-rack bite appliance from the drug store.
