I am nervous about getting braces?
Thanks in advance!

I had braces whilst at high school and it was one of the best things I could of done. They don't stay on for that long and the end result is so worth it. I went to a small high school and it seemed that after I got my braces on that everyone else seemed to get them on as well. Don't be embarrassed or nervous about getting braces, just think of the end result and how lovely your smile will look at the end. Ok while I had braces there was a little tenderness each month when the braces got tightened, don't worry it doesn't last very long at all, mine lasted about a day if that. Sometimes the wires rub your gums and also the cheeks of your mouth, but you can get special wax to go over these areas so that they stop rubbing you. Also if rubber bands are used and they break they can cause a little pain when they break but it never lasts longer than a minute. It is a pain in the bum putting on new rubber bands all the time when they break as they never seem to last very long, well in my experience they didn't anyways. Now it depends on what sort of braces you are actually going to get, but I used to look forward to each month when I could change the colours of the little bands around each brace on each tooth, the colours you can choose from is amazing. Good luck with everything and remember there is nothing to be nervous about.
I had braces in middle school and it was soooo worth it! These days it is a rite of passage; almost everyone gets them and it is certainly nothing to be embarrassed about! By the time you are an adult you will hardly remember what it even felt like to have them on but you will still have the beautiful smile. I am 22 and I am so glad I got my teeth fixed -- no regrets -- and I'm glad I didn't have braces in high school.
One bit of advice: don't get white rubber bands. Go for the other fun colors, because putting something stark white next to your teeth makes them look really yellow. And listen to your orthodonist.
I got mine when I was 29, I am now in my early 50's. I wish I had the chance to get them when I was still in school. Don't worry, this is one of the best long term things that you can do for yourself. Just imagine the rest of your life with straight, beautiful teeth... you will be so proud.
I know that my brother waited until he was an adult and was more upset by not having them while in school than anything else. All of my kids have gone through braces. The first few days were a bit painful but you can take a minor pain medication to help that. You will eat softer foods for a few days and you will need to be extremely mindful of good dental hygiene so you don't get cavities. You will not want to eat really hard things like raw carrots with braces. When you go and have the bands changed you can pick different colors. The kids all liked that part of it. Now that they are off, they are all sooo glad they did it.
Good luck. It really isn't anything to be nervous about.
i've had braces twice and they really do pay off if you follow your orthodontist's directions. i recommend that you avoid a lot of c andy, gum is ok i chew it all the time and dont eat a lot of hard foods. It would be really hard to eat during the first few days that you've put them on but after that you'll be fine. If you wanna know what to expect, well...that depends on you teeth:
- i you have an overbite, they might take out a few teeth so that your teeth can be pushed back further (thats what they did to me)
- some people have to wear a head brace...
but honestly, they don't hurt, they ache but not to the point to where you will cry. You have to get the braces tightened every 6 weeks..the first day after you've tightened them, your teeth will feel quite tight so you would have to eat some soft foods.
