How long will my mouth be sore after getting braces?
Answers:
The initial soreness typically lasts for a period of 3-10 days. After that, you will still experience discomfort and some limited pain, but it won't be as bad as the first period of time. Expect to experience the same period of heightened pain after every time they tighten the braces.
A little advil right after the tightening/installation can help. Be prepared to eat softer foods for a few days too. Also, don't be afraid to use wax for poky wires, or Chloraseptic for particularly painful areas.
I don't think they will be that sore, probably for a few minutes! i am getting them next week after they extract my wisdom teeth. Ouch!
I just got mine last monday and they arent sore anymore. They were sore the first few days but then the pain started to go away. Of course each mouth is different, but this is my personal experience.
well, when i got mine, it was 2-3 days, and maybe a day or so everytime the bands were changed.
advil works wonders for that.
Everytime the wires are tightened your teeth will be sore for a few days. Learn to love rice, pasta and soft foods for those days. The pay off will be your smile when the braces come off :)
For me it was 5 days, but it is different for everyone. They will also be sore for about 2-3 days after all adjustments.
Ugh it hurt me for about 2 weeks. Especially when biting things it's usually easier to eat liquid or soft things like soup during this period while your teeth adapt.
You should also use the wax your doctor should have given you and put it on your braces wherever you feel a sore coming on. They help.
For now just stick to soft food and cold drinks.
Your mouth is sore from the orthodontist tightening your wires. It takes 3 to 5 days of constant pain until your teeth move some. It is all worth the pain. You will soon have the best teeth around you.
By the way it repeats itself with the tightening of your wires every month. So, get use to it.
Well, my experience was about 2 weeks of pain and getting used to the braces. As already suggested, a mild painkiller and wax (to prevent ulsores) will do wonders.
Each time you get them tightened, expect a few days of discomfort. Personally, I found that the spacers (placed between your back teeth prior to having the braces put on) the most painfull.
Eat bread, rice, pasta, jelly, ice cream, custard and yoghurt during the painfull periods. And a warm hot choc can also ease the pain.
Just remember you cannot bite into things whilst having braces, so to eat an apple or something, you need to cut it up first!
Good luck!
