Everyone goes thru it! try painkillers no doubt you tried. clove oil works wonders numbs it (its brilliant) and if your from uk and not working u should get it free dental if non uk resident dont know
Rinse with warm salt water. The gums are infected because plaque and possibly food debris have gotten under the flap of gum tissue.
The only solution that I could tell you really is to go to the dentist and have the wisdom tooth removed.Because you're already in pain, and as what you said, pain killers are not working.Definitely,it has to be removed.Cause if not,it may create bigger problems, like infection,TMJ problems, periodontal problems, stuff like that.Hurting too, because most probably you are biting on the gum around it which you described as swollen and sore.So have it removed. That's the only suggestion I can give.
Go to your nearest dental college - they will treat you far more cheaply. The work will be done by students, but they'll be closely monitored.
See a dentist ASAP, you are probably now suffering from Pericoronitis, a painful infection commonly associated with wisdom teeth.
This infection occurs when food/debris become in bedded under the loose flap of gum surrounding the tooth, washing out with a small glass of warm salty water can help to remove the debris and will also act as an anti-septic and will help relieve any discomfort.
The pain killers are no longer working as your body has become immune to them and you would probably be better off with a course of antibiotics.
Try getting in contact with your local Primary Care trust and they should be able to help find a dentist in your area who will take you on as an nhs patient, also bear in mind if you are not working and are receiving benefits then you will not be charged under the nhs!
Good luck
If you are not working but signing on (UK) you are entitled to free dental treatment under the NHS. If you cannot find a dentist ring your local health authority who will put you in touch with one in your area. Wisdom teeth always cause problems when they come through and often do so gradually so giving you these types of symptoms every now and then.
good question, really! -- jas
