BRACES?!(peopel with braces only)?
Answers:
im going to be honest with you, it really hurts when you first get them. it really only hurts though when you eat at first. dont worry though, the pain goes way after a few days. during this time period though stick with jello, pudding, apple sauce, and other soft foods. soup is great too. ice cream and milkshakes makes the wires a bit less tight so try having that. Right now i have hot pink rubber bands and i really like them. =] last time i had light pink but they faded pretty quickly so try to stay away from light colors. before that i had blue and i liked them but my mom didnt. stay away from clear because they make people look twice at your mouth becaus eur like what is that?? stay away from yellows and greens for obvious reasons. the glow and the dark may SEEM cool but theyre not. about the spacers, i didnt need them but my friends who have needed them had them for about 2 weeks i think. oh and btw the person who gave u a diagram of braces gave u an awful picture, they rly arent that ugly. that reminds me stay away from black for obvious reasons. also stay away from white. my friend had that thinking it would make her teeth look whiter but it juts looked ridiculous
braces are fine... infact i kinda liked having them on. when the dentisit tightens them ther like an ache feeling but its not horrible,,,its not a pain just a satisfying ache. get some funky colours hehe .xxx
I had braces because my teeth were crooked.
Its hard work and everything but in the end its worth it. Trust me.
Its kind of uncomfortable but then u get used to the feeling.
You should choose a color that you like.
I have clear braces
The spacers you get first were the most uncomfortable for me, my teeth felt very sensitive.
After the actual braces were put on, the first day or 2 was a bit uncomfortable but went away.
The color bands are changed everytime you see the orthodontist, about every 6 weeks, so you can change the colors however you see fit. For me, I liked to choose colors that coordinated with any holidays coming up.
Braces are fine, you may be sore for a day or two afterwards but it's not bad. As for color I always went with clear but i suggest if you do get a color don't get anything too outrageous because it won't match a lot of your wardrobe and you'd be surprised how obvious it looks. I got turquoise at one point and had a lot of trouble with wearing clothes that didn't clash completely and I have never been very fashion conscious or anything. Stay with simple enough colors because you'll just regret it otherwise.
The metal scrape the insides of your lips for a while which can get sore, but the skin toughens up pretty quickly. Your orthodontist should give you wax sticks which you pull little pieces off and stick onto any sharp bits until your skin heals:)
As for colours - you can get new colours every time you get the wire changed! Although I wouldn't recommend green (looks like you've got spinach stuck in your teeth!!) orange (it can reflect onto your enamel and make your teeth look dirty) or black (makes your braces REALLY stand out!). Clear elastics look great but stain to yellow pretty quickly. After some mistakes I stuck with purple until they came off! Hope that helps:)
First, I'll tell you how they put them on (as much as I can remember) Here's a picture to guide you along : http://www.greatsmiles.net/parts/braces5...
There is a little thing called a bracket that they will glue to each tooth except the last two. After that, they will put something called an archwire in, and they will put it through each bracket. As this happens, you will literally start to feel your teeth pull apart. It's not painful, but it's also not a great feeling. You then will be able to pick out a color of rubber bands (called elastic ligature). This keeps the archwire in place. In the picture, you will also see something called a band. This all depends on with orthodonist you get. I have one, but some of my friends don't. It's a little uncomfortable to get them on, because he/she will put them on, take them off, fill them with cement, and put them on again.
In the picture, you also see something called a hook. These hold the rubber band in place. You usually get rubber bands at the end of the process to help align your teeth.
You orthodonist will tell you which foods not to eat. They will also teach you how to brush (unfortunately there is a new way to brush your teeth).
This should last up to 30 minutes or sooner. After getting them on, your mouth will feel huge and you'll have a metallic taste. You should get used to it by the next day. It will feel a little weird to eat, and it'll be sore. After the first week of having them you'll feel as if the braces were part of your mouth/teeth.
Spacersare usually put in a week or two before you get your braces.
Take ibuprofen or Tyonol 30 minutes before your appointment. Your teeth will not feel as bad, and you'll be able to eat a little bit.
I wouldn't panic. I did when i got them on, but I realized that it was fine afterwards. Good luck!
I hated having braces, and over the long term they ended up causing the roots of my teeth to shorten. Now, at 41, my teeth aren't as firmly secured to the bones inside my gums. And, The metal scraped the inside of my mouth.
