What is the stuff that sometimes seems to grow from the gum after tooth extraction??

Its a really hard white substance and is almost like tooth or bone.it happened to me and a friend after getting a tooth out and was wondering what it was.it grew for awhile and then before it got too big it just fell off.

I'm a dentist.

That would be granulation tissue. It's somewhat whitish-pink, almost ground beef in appearance and isn't "hard" like tooth, but it is fairly firm. It consists of fibroblasts, various immune cells, blood vessels that have grown into the area, and collagen. It is basically a framework on which the regular tissues (i.e. bone and gingiva or mucosa) can grow.

Now, if what you're touching is actually hard as bone, then it might actually be a piece of tooth left there or more likely a sharp edge of bone protruding from the soft tissues.
