There are risks when getting your tongue pierced, you can develop infection, if not taken care of properly. If you play with it constantly or any, you risk chipping your teeth, or possibly, cracking them. When pt's come in with there tongue pierced it is nessacary for them to remove it before we can do anything in the dental office, cleaning, fillings, etc... And your tongue is one of the fastest healing things in your body. So if you have a couple of fillings or a crown done, that can last up to an hour or two. By that time your tongue could be almost healed, and you may hve to repierce it yourself for the most part. So is it really worth risking your dental health to get your tongue pierced. Not to mention, dental treatment is not cheap..
I heard i doesnt hurt that bad they just pop a needle through it.
I mean if all those people can do it, you can too
it still stings really bad even when you have it nummed, so you might as well numb it before hand.
Because your tongue will try to heal itself quickly, you take a chance in having your tongue skin (on the bottom of your tongue) grow around the ring even if you properly take care of it. You mouth is full of bacteria so you do risk infection if not taken care of properly.
I ended up taking mine out. I love food too much and just couldn't savor it with having that thing in my mouth. . I also didn't like the way it made me sound when I talked. Felt like it was always in the way. I'd rather speak clearly and articulately. Besides, to me its a turnoff when i talk to someone and see a big shiny metal thing hanging from their tongue as they struggle to talk around it. But thats my opinion. There are many people who don't feel the same way..
I had mine done years ago and thought the same thing, but the pain only lasts for a second. It is the swelling afterward that gets to most - I recommend crushed ice to chew on after you pierce it. As for risks, very low ones...if play with it all the time and aren't careful when you eat, you could bite down on it pretty hard and crack a tooth. Also, if it is near the tip of your tongue it could wear on the enamel of your front lower teeth and cause your gums to recess. However, I had my piercing for 9 years, and never had any of these problems.
i have my tounge periced. it didn`t hurt much, just the after pain kind of hurts. & your whole mouth will be just tounge, but you would hardly feel like that your whole mouth will be toungue but i`m sure you`ll be able to see it.

but when you go to the dentist and get cleaning they`ll just tell you to take it off. & make sure you take real good of it because you can get a virus, gum bacteria, such fourth

so yea get it numbed also because you`ll be able to still feel it, it`s better than having it not numb.

hope this helps !!
my daughters got infected and had half her tongue removed she still has trouble talking . don't do it
I work as a dental assistant and you would not believe the number of people that are losing their teeth because of tongue piercings. It is so easy to crack your teeth ,you should really reconsider.

i had my tounge pierced 2 years ago when i was 19, they didnt numb it and it didnt hurt actually getting it done, but afterwards was the worst pain i have ever had. i couldnt eat for 3 weeks, even sipping a drink through a straw absolutely killed. my tongue was swollen like anything and i got an infection. it scrapped the backing off of my two front bottom teeth and chipped one of my other teeth and it started growing out. i've had it out for a year and i have a 1.5cm scar down my tounge. i'm young, thought it was cool to get it done and if i could turn back the clock i would never have done it. really think about why you want to get it done.it really can give you more problems than you think...

Take a look at the above site - read all the way to the bottom of the page and then think twice about any kind of oral piercing. I know many people who are having scars and tattoos removed by plastic surgeons now that they are adults - all because they made faulty decisions when they were younger. Think about why you want these things done - is it because you think it "cool"? Cool changes very quickly from one year to the next - do you really want to follow every fad?
your tounge will be sore, if you dont keep it clean and infection free you could get gain green(sp?) and have to have part of ur tounge removed, it happened to a girl i knew in high school.
