what doe this mean? can anyone help on what the dentist do to fix the problem?

my bottom front teeth are abit black and there has been abit of chipping.please help.I am seeing a dentist in a weeks time.

Answers:
First off, lower incisors (lower front teeth) usualli get chipped off naturally with progress of age due to the fact that they have a tendency to collide with upper front teeth(whch are larger and stronger than lower incisors) thus chipping them off slightly.

but if they became black after getting chipped off chances are the teeth have been slightly damaged exposing the underlying structure(exposing its colour and slight colour of necrosis). In that case the dentist will take an xray and will judge the extend of damage and will do treatment according to the damage-he will either fill it if there is little damage or will do root canal if damage has extended to roots)
if black spot was present before getting chipped off it is quiet possible that the tooth has been stained..u can get it cleaned(scaling) by a dentist.

mind you black spots may also indicate initiation of cavity.but its just an initial stage and you will have no problem if you get it cured(filled) early.
and also note the fact that are you feeling any sort of pain or hot and cold sensitivity in those teeth as it may be of value for diagnosis of the problem by dentist..
the best thing for you is to wait for the dentist to check your teeth. As I already told you black spot and chipping can both be related and not related.it depends on any sign or symptom that the patient has..

that doesn't sound good, it maybe dentures for you :(
stop smoking crack!
The black on your lower incisors may be calculus. This is oxidated hardened tartar. If it is calculus, it will have to be removed. Chipping can be a result of malocclusion (poor tooth alignment) or tooth grinding. This can happen day and/or night during sleep. The calculus can be removed at the time of your visit next week. As for the chipping, how the dentist handles this depends on the cause. If your occlusion (bite) is out of alignment, your dentist may recommend orthodontia. If it's due to grinding, the dentist may wish to smooth out any rough areas and fit you for a bite guard to protect your teeth while you sleep. Grinding is fairly common and can be due to tension. It's not good for the teeth and it's not good for the jaw. Your dentist will explain it all to you.
