wisdom teeth removal without sedation?
A friend of mine is having all 4 wisdom teeth removed without sedation to avoid paying extra $400 on top of what she already has to shell out.. What can she do beforehand and after to ease the pain. Any advice?
Answers:
im sure she will be given pain meds, but even though she wont be sedated she will still be numbed.she will be fine
make them give her valuim to keep her calm they are really cheap like 2.00 they usually give you those an hour before appt time also make sure she gets a rx for pain and tell them she wants phenergan for nausea that is what I did I was uncomfortable for about a week but i Survivied tell her she will be in my prayers and Good Luck
About an hour or so prior to the procedure, take 4 Advil Liqui-Gels, assuming that your friend is at least 100 pounds and has no other contraindications to using this med. Then, follow up with 2 or 3 more about 4 hours after the procedure. This will often make it unnecessary to take narcotics.
knock her on the head with a baseball bat.
better take the drugs, it's very painful when they start extracting by cutting your gums and gouge out the sockets.
Hit herself in the head with a hammer? Get really drunk and pass out? No seriously though can she afford acupuncture?
Get so drunk she passes out!
I'm in the Navy and I saw tons of people get theirs pulled in boot camp w/o sedation. Anything that you could take before hand that would ease the pain will thin your blood and you will bleed more. And it wouldn't compare to the stuff they're gonna give her anyway (unless it's illegal). The best thing to do is just tell her to get plenty to eat first while she still can and let them take care of the pain during the surgery. Afterwards, make sure she takes all the meds as directed. It's easy to fall asleep on the pain killers so if she sleeps past when she is suppose to take more she will be in a lot of pain when she wakes up and it has worn off.
She should call the office and ask them. They will have the best advice for this question.
Lord have mercy.
Nothing at all.
If I were her I would at the very least accept the nitrous oxide gas.
I was a Dental Tech in the Navy and we never use gas in Oral Surgery. All wisdom teeth were removed using a local anesthetic only. That included impacted wisdom teeth as well. Civilian Dentist tend to slam the whole nine yards on you if you need it or not.
This enhances there over all income.
The only scenario the Navy use the type of sedation that Civilian Oral Surgeons use was in the most sever cases and these cases were sent to the Hospital to see what is known as Maxi facial Surgeon.
The most important thing is to follow the post operative instructions so as not to end up with the very painful dry socket.
A dry socket is where the blood clot has been dislodged.
Very important footnote: Do not try to pre-medicate yourself.
Make sure the Surgeon is aware of any narcotics in your system.
The reasoning behind this is so should any complications arise your Surgeon will know what medications to administer so as not to conflict with what is already in your system.
The last thing a Surgeon needs is to complicate an emergency situation further.
