G'day tyggerspaws,
Thanks for your questions.
I feel sorry for your husband. It depends on where you are and whether he has amalgam or composite fillings.
About.com advises for the US "Although costs vary across the country and by dental office, the cost of typical metal filling ranges from approximately $75 to $145 per filling, whereas a composite resin fillings range from $150 to $200 for a single surface white composite filling." In Virginia, the cost was $170. The relative price of composite fillings seems to have declined markedly as the FDA advised that they cost between 1.5 and 8 times the cost of amalgam in 1998. For this reason as well as the aesthetics, composites are more popular.
In the UK, the costs may vary between 70 and 150 pounds depending on the work and the size of the job.
Insurance covers between 50% and 80% of the cost in the US. Again, this varies by country.
A dentist on FAQ Farm states ""Cheap" fillings are bad fillings, 100% guaranteed. If a dentist make good and cheap fillings, he/she will be out of the dental business in a very short time. Very often, a bad filling is worse that no filling at all, so the "cheapness" of the filling is doubtful. "Expensive" fillings have a chance of being good fillings. A well cared-for good filling can last a lifetime, so the expensiveness of the filling is also doubtful. . but dishonest dentists can also charge a lot for a bad filling.the trick is to find a honest dentist, and for this task you MUST educate yourself about basic dentistry.
I strongly suggest you to read "Complete Guide to Dental Health", a consumer report book. "
I enclose sources for your reference.
Best wishes to you and your husband.
Regards
I would think without insurance it would cost about two or three hundred dollars.
Fillings are priced according to how large it is and how many surfaces it occupies. So it could be a one, two, three, or four surface filling. You wont know for sure until the dentist takes a look at him. Also, there is a price difference between silver and tooth colored fillings as well.
From what I remember, the price range for a filling wasn't too bad.about $200-400 dollars. Thank God that most insurances cover fillings. I had to have an extraction because my tooth broke and there was no hope saving it. It cost about $2,000 and my insurance didn't cover it. I was told I should have tried to argue with them to help pay for at least some of it, but I didn't. That was a while ago and I am just about finished paying for it.
