Braces- Crowns- Braces??

I had Braces for 3.5 years and got them off last month. I'm suppossed to get 4 crowns on my front teeth on the 11th. This is just for looks, the teeth are fine, but my teeth on each side of my front teeth are smaller then i'd like. I'm having second thoughts about getting crowns- maybe I should just get braces on top to pull together the gaps ( they left gaps for the crowns) and not worry about it? I'm thinking I don't wanna get new crown every 10 yrs? Please give me your thoughts and pro or cons you can think of:) Thanks everyone!

Cheers, Melissa

Hi Melissa,

Your teeth in nature follow a "golden" proportion, they are uniquely sized and shaped for your mouth. Which is why you notice how your laterals are slightly smaller than they need to be. You are aware that it just isnt quite right.
Your orthodontist left the gaps in the teeth because he was doing just that, following the golden proportion of where the teeth should ideally be, for where the crowns should go. If the gaps are closed, then the rule is broken and you get a not so esthetically pleasing result.
Are you required to get crowns? The are an ideal choice, but perhaps your dentist can do tooth colored fillings to close the gaps instead. Or maybe veneers, because less tooth structure is cut for them. Talk to your dentist to make sure all options are covered.
As long as you take care of those crowns, such as brushing along the gumline and flossing in between them, your investment will last a very long time and hopefully for more than 10 years.

Good luck!
