I am getting my braces on in 1 month, does it hurt when you get them on?

The actual braces don't hurt to put on. It's the spacers & the braces rubbing on the inside of your cheeks. Wax will become your best friend. You will get used to the awkwardness pretty quick. Don't stress about it.
on the first day you wear them, it doesn't hurt really. but wait till the next day when the pain is all over the place. i suggest eating noodles or anything thats easy to swallow and doesn't need to chew.
When they're put on, it really depends on the type of braces you get. Most metal braces have bands that go around your back molars that sorta feels like you've got something caught in your teeth. Then you get brackets glued on your front teeth, and a wire goes through the brackets and through tubes in the bands on the molars. When they tighten the wire, it pulls your front teeth back. They can also make other modifications to the wire to move teeth in other directions.
After they tighten the wire, your teeth will be sore for about a week, but that pain goes away. Tylenol helps alleviate that pain. After you get them, you'll want to avoid eating rough foods like apples, corn, or steak. You'll want to stick to softer foods for about a week (because it will hurt if you don't, and you could knock some of your brackets off).

Getting braces does not hurt on the first day. The pain that you feel will be the pressure from your teeth becoming straight and beautiful. I would take motrin before your appointment and chew gum to help relieve the pain.
