How healty do your gums have to be in order to get veneers-does it make a difference-how?
Answers:
6mm pockets are not good, you may have mobility in the teeth and chance losing them depending how long you've had the pockets or- are you taking care and having proper treatment. If you are not do not waste your money on veneers- concentrate your money on getting 2mm-3mm pockets to save the teeth first.
pretty healthy. or when they prepare the teeth, the gums will bleed and make it very difficult. start flossing and brushing and rinsing with listerine daily.
Your gums should be as healthy as possible. The edge where the venner meets the tooth might change after you get the veneers done if your gums are not healthy and that is a drag for all concerned. As Emily says, also, if your gums bleed easily, it will be difficult to get a good impression. Not only that, but ANY bleeding will ruin the bond between the veneers and your tooth. They will show a dark line at the edge of the veneers and they might even pop off rather easily. Bleeding and bonding just don't get along at all.
Veneers are expensive and usually not covered by dental insurance.
Putting that kind of money into cosmetics and not addressing gum disease is like building a luxury home on a crappy foundation.
The gums need to be healthy to have veneers placed. Otherwise when you get them healthy, they will shrink up around the veneer, exposing the margin. Considering that you are probably getting veneers for cosmetic reasons also then it is not cosmetically pleasing to see the margins of the veneer. Get a professional cleaning first and then have the veneers done. Good luck!
