Is having brown and pink gums normal?

my brother and sister have brownish pink gums as well and I was wondering if it was hereditary or just something else.

Some pigment may be mixed in with the pink color of your gums.
Have you or someone had them checked? Has the dental hygienist or dentist or doctor ever said anything was abnormal?
If they haven't mentioned it, I'd say your are within normal limits.

*shrug* Pink is normal enough, but I don't know about brown. Ask your dentist if none of these answers do it for you.
Yes, the color is gentic and if you all have the same color you are fine. As long as there is no bleeding, soreness, or ulcerations that you can see it is your normal color most likely.

If that's the way your gums have always been, then it's normal for you. Apparently it runs in your family. May the Lord give you no greater problems.

It's just the melanin pigment that you see everywhere else on your body. It's visible in many Mediterranean populations and Native Americans as well.
i'm not sure about ethicity, but what i know is that chain-smokers have brownish to blackish gum color especially on their front teeth, and same also with people who have dental crowns made with nickel-chromium material.
