Omfg! do you think the doctors did the right thing?!?
she went to the dentist today to get a cavity filled
the first time she went to get it checked out, they were nice
this time, when the put something in her mouth, it freaked her out
they asked my mom if they could hold her down
if not, they had only 2 options
1)go to the hospital and inject anestisha in her
2)TIE her down to the chair =[[
my mom had no clue what to do, so they just held her down
she was screaming "SOMEBODY HELP HELP! SOMEBODY! ANYBODY!"
like she was SERIOUSLY freaked out
my mom is BAWLING--how can she NOT?!
she canceled the second appt. for the second cavity and got a new person
do you think the dentist office should've done that?
btw, they said they dont have any of that gas stuff that will make you like WHOOO
and she bit her lip, and its HUGE
Answers:
I think your mom did the right thing changing dentists. If a child is that freaked out then they should send her to another dentist that specializes in child care.
Put some ice on your sister's lip to get the swelling down. Popsicles work great too.
By the way - if your sister has 2 cavities at the age of 4 then there is too much candy in her diet or she is not brushing her teeth. You can help her alot by making sure she isn't getting alot of sweet stuff and help her with her brushing before she goes to bed.
since your sister was freaked out, she should had went home. your mom should had rescheduled. the dentists should not put their hands on her!
The dentist office needs to be shot and hung for being so rough with her but that is another story. You mom should look in the yellow pages for a PEDIATRIC dentist for your sister and for the rest of the family she should find a new dentist ASAP. Cancel any appointments you already have there including your 6 month routine check up and get those scheduled at a new dentist office.
There are pediatric dentists that specialize in treating children, and your mom should try to find one.
no they didnt do whats right...
they should have used an anestetic or tried a different method or something...
No, I do not believe the doctors did the right thing. With your sister freaking out, if they could not calm her down in a reasonable amount of time they should of rescheduled. I suggest your mother find your sister a pediatric dentist. They are wonderful and are very equipped to help a child deal with the procedures needed.
they both were in the wrong...ur mom and the dentist.
the dentist for tieing her down
and ur mom for not taking her and going home..
sry for being so blunt but that is my opinion..
did ur mom give them permission? u didnt say that.and if she did then they were in the right...sry
that is absolutly tramatizing. How awful for your sister. You should not go back to that dentist at all they should have given her the nitrous gas. That is so horrible. No child is going to sit there without something to calm them down.
Your mother should have gone to a dentist who knows how to deal with a pediatric patient. It was not right to restrain her, it can destroy the child's trust in health care providers and in her mother to protect her.
Your mother should go find another dentist, perferably one who specializes in children. However, she should also be aware that there are risks in any kind of anesthesia, whether local (the shot of novocaine, or whatever it is they use now) or general (the gas). She needs to make sure that someone is present who will be monitoring her child's vital signs during the procedure.
Secondly, at this age, your sister is way too young to be having significant cavities at her age. She needs to be brushing her teeth at least twice a day for at least 2 minutes. You or your mom should also be flossing her teeth for her, since she does not have the ability to do it herself right now.
And she needs to cut out the sweets, sodas, fruit juices and the like which are contributing to her tooth decay. If your home water does not have fluoridation, then consider getting a fluoride supplement so that her permanent teeth will grow in stronger than what she has now.
There are pediatric dental care videos available which will help you and your mom teach her what to do. You should be setting a good example for her with your own dental hygiene habits.
Make sure that you use only a small quantity of toothpaste (about pea sized) when brushing her teeth.
Big baby...
Yes, the dentist & assistant were wrong to suggest to tie her down & for holding her down. That terrifies the child. it's abuse.
The dentist shouldn't even tried to work on her after she's upset and especially they don't have any nitrous gas. unbelievable.. they shouldn't even be in the business, wanting to tie a human down and not even sedate... that's abuse!!
Adults, let alone children are scared of dentist... hopefully, she won't be afriad to go next time, and make sure they're a children's dentist and they have a heart.
The best thing that COULD have been done was to leave and get a 2nd opinion, preferably with a pediatric dentist.
Treating the patient in this way only traumatized her, probably insuring a lifetime of poor dental health as she will have a fear of dentists and dentistry.
I work in a pediatric dental office. Many children are fearful at a first dentist visit, but trying to win the trust of one that has been traumatised as this patient clearly has been, is most difficult.
Our office may have also recommended completing the work under general anesthesia if there was alot of work to be done. He also suggests sedating the patient with a prescription that will relax the them for work that needs done, as our office also does not have "laughing gas" either.
As a pediatric dentist, we see thousands of patients a year, but never resort to holding down, or tying down a patient.
Have your mom find a pediatric dentist and explain what happened so they will be well informed and prepared and patient when seeing your sister.
OK... I had a similar issue with my dentist. I'm 14 & handicapped, my Aunt took me to get two cavities filled and it's like 11:30 am. My aunt offered to come in with me and i said "No" They took me in and said "It's my lunch time, lets make this quick" They injected novocain, and started drilling immediately! So i said "GET THE FUDGE OUTTA MY MOUTH!" Dentist says "it doesn't hurt" they stopped after they were done the first one
Next month i go back, They say TAKE HIM TO A Specialist
So no they didn't do the right thing with your sis
