Does anyone know a case where a child does not grow all his/her teeth?

My child is 14 months old and only has 3 back teeth. I am very scared that he may never grow any more. help!

my son was like that.. he was almost 2 before he got all his teeth. Dentist said he was just slow at getting them in.
don't freak out mom. he will be ok. after loosing his baby teeth, my son walked around without his two front teeth until he was 9.

that was a scary period. he is 14 y/o now and what a beautiful smile.

your baby is doing great. as long as you continue to take him to his regular checkups and if the dentist doesn't say panic, then all is well.

babies are so cute
Fear not!! lots of people do not have all of their teeth (including me, I don't have any wisdom teeth!!) my daughter was late in cutting her molars too, but sure enough they came in. But, to ease your worries, your child should see a dentist (all children should see one for the first time at about 1 year) Some pediatric dentists will offer a "free exam" for new patients and that is all he would need. They won't take x-rays or anything, just check out how his teeth and get him used to seeing a dentist.
There is an average time of tooth eruption and shedding dates. Of course, there are many that get them in sooner, and others that get them later. Even less common are those that are missing teeth.

Although having missing teeth is not all that common, it would be unusual to be missing baby teeth. Usually when someone is missing teeth, they hold onto their baby teeth for a much longer period of time, as there is no permanent tooth to replace it.

If you have family members with a history of missing teeth, there is a chance that your child may have inherited the condition but 14 months if awful young to expect or determine if this is the case. Take him the dentist for an exam- the dentist may be able to "feel" along the gum line to determine how soon the teeth should erupt, and put your fears to rest.
