My doctor gave me a shot of pain relief for my teeth and i am still numb in the area, how long does yours take
Answers:
Wow, that is some powerful anesthetic. Lidocaine is the most common used anesthetic and that usually lasts for an hour, maybe 2-3. Long lasting anesthetic we give is Articaine. It usually lasts 4-5 hours, maybe a little longer depending on the individual. I don't know of any anesthetic that lasts for 24 hours. My guess is that there is transient damage to the nerve, nothing to be that concerned with, the feeling will most likely come back. This happens some times. The feeling will come back, but to be on the safe side, I would contact your dentist and let them know what is going on.
it will be about another week before you get it back because of the new anesthetic people are using in the US.
Call the doctor'soffice and ask them.
Its not clear to me what was done to you. Was this novacaine administered by a dentist? Or something else?
If it's novacain (sorry spelling) it could take awhile. I had 1 shot of it a few weeks ago for a filling at about 12 p.m. and by 8 p.m. I was still pretty numb. If the numbness doesn't wear off I'd call the dentist. good luck.
