If you can feel the sensation of your tongue accross the surface of your tooth does that mean you need a..?

Root canal? I have a bad tooth and it hurts when I brush it. I am going to the dentist for it. I am afraid they will tell me I need one. I am so afraid of the dentist.

Not being a speacialist in this field I'm not quite sure that I fully understand what it is you feel, perhaps pain or perhaps a tingle. If it's pain, then I would hamper a guess that there is a possabilty you have a tooth problem.
As for your fear of dentists, you have probably at one time or another had a bad experience with a dentist that causes this fear.Older dentists, usually rely on teachings from some time ago and are not really the best ones to see. Newer graduates have all the latest teachings behind them that affords the patient the best dental care with the least amount of discomfort.
Perhaps having a chat with a prospective dentist will make you feel more at ease for future visits. Dentists today aren't as stubborn so to speak as those in the past may have been and by using the most modern equipment provide virtual pain free dental care. After all, if they expect to make a living in a profession that took so long to reach, hurting their patients is the last thing they want to do.

Sorry but it sounds like your in for a root canal. The good news is that they're nothing compared to the tooth ache. I had one and the relief was immediate.
I think you definitely have something wrong with your tooth. Is it absess? (meaning an infection) Don't be afraid of the dentist, they are there to take care of your teeth, sometimes it hurts, sometimes not. Don't brush too hard on that part of your mouth as you may aggravate the situation. Brushing too hard may make your gums bleed, too. Try to floss if you can. Hope your appointment is soon. It's a good idea to get that looked at as soon as you can. Take care.
