Should i notify my orthodontist if a spacer falls out?
Answers:
Usually if the spacer falls out, "without any help," it means that there is enough room and the spacer isn't needed anymore. To make sure there is "space," take a piece of floss and double it, then double the floss "again," then try to put it in between the teeth in that area as if you were going to floss, but don't. If it goes in without you applying a lot of force, then you have enough space. Keep an eye on that area, you want it to "stay open." So if you notice it's "starting to get tight" you will need to go in for "another spacer to be placed." Most of the time it means that there is more than enough space there for us to put the bands on. If you just aren't sure, ask your mom or dad to take a look and read this information. Take care and good luck with your ortho! I'm sure you'll be fine without the spacer now.
Additional information: I tell all of our patients when we place spacers, that if "one comes out on it's own" without the help of candy, flossing or your playing with it.then you have "enough space" or probably had nearly enough to begin with. Just check with the floss as I described above and if that goes in without trouble then your fine, you don't need another spacer placed. We only need a "small amount of space" to slide the band around each of the molar teeth. If there isn't enough space, it makes it difficult for us and very uncomfortable for you. If it's tight the day we place your ortho, we can always put a spacer in while we work elsewhere in your mouth, allowing it to open the teeth again for us to place the bands. Make sure to check daily for the space so it doesn't shift closed tight. My guess is you didn't "really need a spacer there" and probably have enough space already which is the way most cases are. But I can't see your teeth so it's up to you to check the space, they may have mentioned this information when you had them placed. So relax, if there is space for the doubled floss to slide in, you'll be fine. I've "worn" them myself and "placed spacers and ortho on hundreds of patients," so I think you can trust my advice on this one sweetie.
Yes if a spacer falls out call the orthodontist to let them know.
Absolutely. Spacers are a part of the treatment. PLanned treatment and results cannot be obtained if the spacers are not in place. If there was no need to report them falling out you wouldn't have needed them in the first place!!
YES AS SOON AS THEY OPEN IN THE AM
Anytime anything breaks, falls out, falls off, comes loose, or causes you severe pain, call your orthodontist right away.
It's important that you do it ASAP because it affects how long you'll have to wear your braces. :X
The longer you wait, the more your teeth will move and then it will take twice as long to get them back into position.
Yes, you should notify your orthodontist. Some times spacers fall out even when there is not enough room yet. I just got my spacers taken out and braces put in yesterday. Since you still have quite a while to wear them, they will more than likely replace the spacers. Let me know if I can be of further help.
