Tooth Fracture?
I do not feel much pain.
Immediately I took the fragment and rushed to the dentist, after waiting for 10-20minutes, the dentist bonded the broken fragment back.
Questions:
Will there be a need to do root-canal in future?
Has my tooth died?
Will there be any colour difference even if the tooth is still alive?
Answers:
You'll have to wait about 10 days before you can find out if the tooth is dead. You can try it yourself with the help of a friend using a peice of ice. Place the ice against each surrounding tooth, one at a time and see how long it takes before it starts hurting. Then try placing it against the broken tooth and check the same thing. If the tooth is dead, you won't feel the cold.
In order for this test to work the ice should touch tooth surface only, preferable in front near gum area but not touching gums at all. If the ice melts and water trickles down on the gums, you may feel cold and get a false result - so you have to be careful.
You cannot do this test now, because the tooth is still stunned from trauma. It takes between 10 and 14 days to recover.
If the tooth is alive and well, it will not discolor and you won't need a root canal. If the tooth is dead, you do need a root canal and there is a chance that the tooth will discolor. Putting a ceramic crown after the root canal procedure is done will help it look better, if the tooth is dead already.
Go see a Prosthodontist, they are speacialists who deal with cosmetic dentistry, Endodontists do the root canals. Having a
general dentist do cosmetic work on your teeth is like having your family physician put a stent in your heart. I always like going to the best for getting quality work done.
color differentials will be an out come. but u should have asked the dentist these questions. since she is the only one who saw the x-ray to see if you would need a root canal in the future or not. good luck.
root canal=no
tooth died=no
different color =possible
These are all questions for your dentist. Only your dentist has actually examined the tooth.
That having been said, maybe is the answer to all of the above. But probably no. You fractured off the tip of the tooth not any part that had vitality.
Last year I was hit very hard in a front tooth, but never saw a dentist. Over time I realized the tooth was very loose. I had an x-ray 2 months ago and found the tooth was severed above the gum line. It hadn't fallen out or noticeably (dis)colored. However, I had the tooth removed two weeks ago because my dentist said it was just a matter of time before either of those things happened. Now I'm waiting for my gum to heal so I can get some extensive work done.
