I need some reassurance as I am getting my dental work done at a school and everything is in delay mode. I?

have pain in my lower right molar area-supposedly it is from my gums. When I went for help-what I got was a ton of procedure and am still in pain-can't bite down. The gum below my molar is very sore, however the molar also has a crown on it. How can one know if the pain is stemming from the gums or if there is a problem under the crown-an x-ray doesn't show through the crown. Any advice/reassurance, while I wait until I can get an appointment. Is waiting causing greater damage? It certainly is stressful! By the way, the first time they saw me they scaled one tooth (told not enough time) because it had the deepest pocket, but it wasn't the area that was causing the pain. It was very disconcerting that they placed procedure over the precedence of relieving pain.

Answers:
I would call the school and ask about their procedure regarding emergencies. Most will see you as an emergency patient if you are having pain. Ask about the best time of day to go, usually first thing in the morning is best so that there is plenty of time for treatment. Also be sure to let them know that the initial scaling did not help so it could be the tooth and not the gum.
