How do you know if you have a cavity?

There are roughly 3 size types of cavities:
LARGE - the patient can see or feel it with their tongue. Usually sensitive to cold or hot, and getting food stuck in it. This is trouble - see a dentist ASAP even if painfree.
MEDIUM - the outside of the tooth starts to discolour fractionally. Usually spotted by a dentist. This is a sign of decay in the secondary layer (dentine) shining thru the outer layer (enamel). Sometimes sensitive to cold.
SMALL - only can be picked on X-rays between the teeth. This is when you want to catch them, as they are easier for you to have treated, hence less expensive, and less damaging to your teeth.

See your friendly neighborhood dentist.
If you wait till it hurts it wont be a cavity any more it will be an abscess and it will need an expensive and painful root canal. So get the check up!
A cavity is a hole in the enamel of the tooth. As it enlarges it will begin to hurt and turn dark brown or black. You should go to the dentist at least every 6 months for a check up and to have your teeth cleaned to prevent cavities. The dentist will enform you if you have a cavity. It needs to be repaired or you will experience terrible pain eventually.
go to a mirror, get a flashlight.
open your mouth and look inside to check for any small holes. also feel with your finger for any small holes. they will be very hard to feel so dont freak out when your teeth have bends in them.
