Do braces hurt to get?

I recently found out i have to have braces (train tracks) and i was very upset about it, and after getting mixed responses from friends i was wondering, if you've had a brace, does it hurt to get put on, how do they do it and how long does it take?

Answers:
They do. But I was 23 years old when I got them and doc said my jaw was small and that's why it hurt much. My nephew had them when he was 14 and he says it hurt but not much.

Still, you should be ready for the pain. I couldn't eat much at first and I could only eat pudding type of food. But I tell you it's worth all the pain I had, I'd do the same thing again if I needed. Because now I can smile really big and get lots of compliments :D

They hurt for a while, but in the long run, it's worth it. I'm the mom of a train tracker. for almost 4 years long.
It shouldn't hurt, no. However, it can be uncomfortable at first. Braces just take a little getting used to but in the end they're worth the time, effort, money, and slight discomfort.
Not to get them but when braces are tightened they can be uncomfortable. Depending on your tolerance, braces can sometimes cause headaches.

Well worth it if you want a perfect smile.
i used to have a brace, but the old style type. the one that you could pop in and out. and that was very painful at night when i had to place a headband over my head and connect it to the brace via elastic bands that were pulling on my mouth through out the night , but things maybe different now as i seem to see people with different braces and i don't think it looks painful.
its not that bad, i got mine 5 months ago

when they are putting it on its not bad at all, its not tight or anything

they just glue some brackets to your teeth using dental cement, then string a wire through them, no tightening or breaking your jaw haha

the next day or so your teeth will be sore, but then it will go away

the first day you will probably only be able to drink and eat liquids and soups and ice cream kinda things

usually they leave it on for 12- 24 months

I will have to get braces in September. Right on the first year of highschool. Damn. My friends say it hurts pretty much all the time, and hurts the most when you first get it.
I wont lie, to get them put on does not hurt a bit. Its just annoying cause your mouth has to be open for like an hour. Then AFTERWARDS it hurts. How? Your gums are tender because the braces apply pressure to your gums to straighten out your teeth. It'll hurt to eat anything for about a week. My mum made me pudding and mashed potatoes. And jelly. Basically drink some Jamba Juice for a week.

After that it doesnt really hurt. The wires just might poke the inside of your mouth now and then. And give you open wounds. But your ortho will give you wax to put over the wires.

And then your braces will only hurt when your ortho tightens your wires. Itll hurt just like when you first put them on.
i heard they do becuz my friend has em and she was like this sucks it really hurts.lol
It hurts for a few days when you get it but eventually your teeth get used to it. But to actually put on, it doesn't hurt at all [If the train tracks is the one I have, I'm not sure how its called here.] they just put it on, and a few hours later, or less, it starts to hurt but after a few days the pain slowly goes away :).
i got braces on august 12
they put them on with a special cement
it takes about an hour for them to put them on
they do hurt a little when you eat try not to eat anything to hard
they hurt for like a week and i heard they hurt when you get them tightened. they give you rules and stuff your not supposed to eat but its OK if you break the rules cuz i do a little just try to stay away from caramel and taffy
I just got braces. Im not sure if your going to get spacers but those are the first step. you keep the spacers in for a week. they hurt for about 2-4 days. it depends on how your teeth are spaced. after that you get your braces on. first you put the molar bands in. you feel pressue when they put them in but no pain at all that takes about 10min. then they clean your teeth and put a special glue on your teeth for you braquets so they can stay on. then they put each braquet on each tooth then shin a blue light into your mouth to dry the glue. this is painless and takes about 20 to 30 min. then you get your wire put in, again you will feel some pressure on your teeth and will take 10min. you will feel sore in your mouth for 2-4 days then its over. Its doesnt hurt to put braces on at all. it usually takes 90 min. to put the braquets and wires in. to help the pain or discomfort you can take advil or tylenol to ease the pain. it works. you you can gargle salt water. that also helps.

I hope i answered your question!

They hurt, but it's not unbearable.

They'll put in spacers/separators btween ur molars 2 get them 2 start moving so that they can put in ur molar bands, which will make ur mouth feel sore 4 a couple of days.

When they put in ur molar bands, it should hurt for a couple of days as well.

When u get ur wires or get wires tightened, u should feel not pain but a slight pressure which u will get used 2 after a few days.
my though of braces you be full medicated you just wont be able to ear corn on the cob or gum carmal apple or anything hard probal take about 1 and 1/2
i have braces now and when you at the orthadontist get up out of the seat and RUN! run as far and fat as you can unless you literally want to go through hell!
