I had braces when I was 16 and I've had problems with my jaw ever since.?

It keeps dislocating when I yawn/am eating/stressed. It's been going on for too long and none of the plastic guards the dentist has given me has worked. I'm getting really fed up. How can I help this?

Answers:
it sound like temporal mandibular joint disfunction you need to get your dentist to refer to a specialist if this field as i was refered years ago and my jaw is a lot better they can give you jaw exercises to do or if it is severe it can be corrected with surgery by a maxiofacial specialist.

I have the same thing its a deterioration of the joint. I have been told that if it continues to get worse i will need surgery. one thing I was told to stop doing was grinding and clenching my teeth.
if you do jaw exercises it can help i have been told
You need to asked to be refered back to your orthodontist as it sounds as you teeth are still slightly out of alinement. To get this sorted out you may be required to wear another brace for a few months. Good luck
go to a doctor and get the jaw x-ray to check the bone structure and MRI for the muscle surronding it.
Find a dentist who knows the right way to make one of "the plastic guards" and then get your bite adjusted. Braces can boldly move your teeth from here to there, but rarely will it mate the hills and valleys exactly as they are supposed to be. Even slight discrepancies will cause the TMJ problem you are describing.
you know what you might have?? you might have TMJ(temporal mandibular joint syndrome)
basically the ligament (that attaches your bone to muscle) is "loose" .. so it doesn't hold as nicely as other people, causing a "looser" joint, which can lead to many other problems such as lock-jaw..
