Can a cavity heal itself?
ive had toothache for about a week and was supposed to go dentist today but it feels ok. just wondered if teeth heal themseves?
Answers:
cavities on the outer layer of the tooth (enamel) start out as dissolved areas from bacterial acid. proper brushing with fluoride toothpaste combined with various parts of your saliva can help to rebuild those dissolved areas.
once the enamel is completely penetrated, though, the cavity goes into the middle layer (dentin), and it cannot heal. the more acid it is exposed to, the faster the decay will progress, but it will never get better, just maybe slow down.
if you had a toothache that brought you to the dentist, the cavity is all the way into the inner layer (pulp) where the nerve is, way past the point of no return, the enamel. once bacteria are there, they inflame the pulp (the toothache you had) until it dies, and the pain subsides. if you don't go to the dentist to let him/her clean the dead pulp out of the tooth, you will swell up like a balloon (an abscess) and you will be in wretched pain yet again. you've basically got a nest for nasty recurring bacterial infections until you go back to the dentist.
No, sorry. The tooth is one of the rare parts of the body that cannot heal itself, a cavity is a hole that is in the tooth so the only way to fix it is going to the dentist, good luck.
NO!
dentine can actually repair itself however the enamel cant, but I'd go anyway.
No, a cavity cannot heal itself if that was what was causing pain. The nerve in the tooth may have died and that's why the pain stopped. You need to keep that appointment because even if the pain stops the decay does not.
dont know
absolutely not. you have to go to the dentisit and he will put a filling in. if you wait it will just get worse and possibly have to be pulled
nope
No. I just had one pulled for that reason myself. Instant relief.
no
tooth ache can but cavity cannot so u better go n c da doc 2day itself!
no a cavatiy cant heal itself untill you visit the dentist..
sounds like you'd rather skip the visit .
haha , no it wont heal itself , .. jist get it filled once in for all, or later you might need a root canal or complete extraction..
No, you silly s*d it doesn't heal itself - don't be such a coward - make an appointment and go to the dentist!!
no it wont go away it will keep comeing back tell it decas or however you spell it sorry trust me i thought i would go away to and it decaded to the roots i had to have it sergically removed which really sucked i was in bed for a week i only woke up for like 5 minutes long enough to take a pain pill and get a drink and i went straight back to bed trust me it really does hurt and i mean to the point of crying
NO. If they could, we wouldn't need dentists.
No go to the dentist before it gets worse. Good Luck.
No. This is what I call "Threat Therapy." You finally committed to a course of action to take care of your tooth, so it knows you are serious, so it stopped hurting. Cancel the appointment and I guarantee your toothache will be back tomorrow.
But seriously. Pain comes from pressure. As the infection/inflammation/whateve. spreads through tissue and finally breaks through another layer, the pain will subside for a week or two. It will be back with a vengeance, though.
no it can't.
go to the dentist and tell them
Not normally but if it was from grinding your teeth, that could feel better. The only treatment for a cavity though is to remove the cavity and place a filling. Hopefully you were just grinding your teeth or you have a little sensitivity. Your dentist should be able to look at the tooth and tell you what (if anything) is wrong with it. It always happens that the day of your appointment it stops hurting!! Well, good luck and take care of that tooth.
no the pain was probably an abscess(infection ) in the tooth and found a way out either thru the tooth or gums. the only way a cavity can stop is to get a dentist to remove the cavity
