Did you wear your retainers after you got your braces removed?
If not, did your teeth shift back?
Answers:
I did not want to wear my retainer and as soon as the orthodontist told me I didn't have to wear it, I stopped. My teeth shifted a bit. It is now known that you should wear your retainer, at least at night, for several years to keep the teeth where they were when the braces came off.
Now, a word from my son, current retainer wearer:
Don't bother wearing the retainer during the day. Whenever you eat, your mouth tastes like morning breath, which makes food and water taste HORRIBLE. I suggest wearing it only at night, simply because a lot of people sleep on their faces. I do, and when I forget to wear my retainer, my front teeth shift.
I have noticed that in the morning, after you remove your retainer, your teeth are a different position than they were the night before. By the end of the day, my teeth will have shifted into a new position (not really a new position, but they shift back a bit). Now that I have worn my retainer for nearly a year, I have noticed that it takes longer and longer for this shifting to occur. The retainer does "retain" your teeth to where they should be after braces, and I fully suggest wearing it as your orthodontist prescribes.
oh, definitely! i still have to use it until now, although not every day..because it's a total waste of time and pain if you don't wear your retainers!
I wear mine every night. Of course, I don't know whether I can stop wearing them after a few years or I have to wear them for the rest of my life.
i still wear mine. i don't wear them every night but i tend to go in spurts of wearing them then giving it a rest for awhile. my teeth don't majorly shift, but there's one that does if i slack off and don't wear them enough, but once i start wearing them regularly it shifts back over. i really should wear them more because i'm in dental hygiene school
Yes, and I still do on occasion (had them off 15 years ago).
My wife, who didn't wear hers now needs braces again for her bottom jaw.
