What more can be done regarding a bad dentist?

I will post a link to my question yesterday about the abusive dentist.

I went to report him to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry this morning only to see HIS NAME on the report form. He's on the board! Is reporting him even going to do me any good? What can I do?

Answers:
It does not surprise me that this doctor serves on a board. Some of the most aggressive dentists seek such positions because of their expansive egos. There are, however, other people on the board. A complaint sent to this agency will be reviewed by people before he ever sees it.

While the marks on your neck are still visible, you might contact a local TV station. The negative publicity could seriously damage his practice.

Most often, I take the side of dentists when answering this type of question, because I know how some people exaggerate their complaints. The majroity of problems can usually be resolved by having a rational discussion with the dentist.

However, this looks like an exception. If your story is accurate (and it helps that you wrote it in a non-hysterical way), you have a real cause for complaint.

It is unfortunate that a few idiot dentists give the rest of the competent nice ones a bad name.
Absolutely it will still be worth your time reporting any concerns you may have about your dentist. Although he is "on the board" as you say, all state Boards of Dentistry are completely "patient oriented" and will do whatever they need to do to investigate a report. I

n this case, he may be asked to not participate as a board member during the proceedings. Remember that dentistry as a profession is here for the health and well being of patients. Specifcally, Boards of Dentistry, are here to protect the patient and NOT the dentist as you may think.

Good Luck.
I would still follow through even though he's on the board. I'm having a situation with my dentist too. I had a root canal done back in January, but the pain never went away. I couldn't sleep on my left side. Three months later, he ended up pulling the tooth and gave me the cost of either a bridge, $800 out of pocket, or an implant, $2,000 out of pocket. A couple of weeks ago he removed an old filling and put a new one in. Since Monday I've had pain in that tooth and have to go back to have that problem fixed. I spent over $550 out of pocket for the root canal and filling and then I got a bill for $74 more. I wrote a note to the office manager asking them to write off that amount due to what I had to go through with the root canal. So I definitely say you should go ahead with your complaint. I'm thinking of doing the same with my dentist.
Do not let it stop you if you see that he is on the board. He will have to recuse himself from the proceedings. Maybe you are the 10th person to report him anyway and the board will have to consider removing him. What's the worse that could happen? Do it.
