Can a gap inbetween 2 teeth be filled so I don't need to floss?
Sometimes if I travel and forget to floss the food can start to break down in there and cause slight amount of pain so I'd rather have the gap filled at the sides somehow to stop food getting in the in the first place.

If I am understanding your tooth location correctly, you are speaking of a space between your first molar and second premolar (assuming you do not have wisdom teeth).
This space, sometimes referred to as a diastema, can indeed be closed quite easily by your dentist. Most likely the dentist will place a small filling on one of the teeth (or both) to tighten and close the space to avoid the "food trap."
Please call your dentist, as I am sure he would be happy to take care of this for you. You can expect this procedure to take about 1 hour and depending on time could be done at the same appointment that you initially meet with him about your concern.
Good Luck!
Yes. You could have a filling placed on one or both of the teeth to tighten the "contact" as it is called. This will eliminate the food trap, which aside from being annoying, can get painful and cause gum inflammation. It is a minor thing to have fixed and shouldn't be a big deal for you. You should still floss though, to avoid getting cavities, but now it won't be because you have half your lunch stuck between two teeth! :)
