Does dry-socket cause any permanent damage?

After doing some research, I am almost certain that I have dry-socket where my wisdom tooth was removed a week ago. I will visit to the oral surgeon tomorrow, but I'd like to know now whether there will be any lasting/permanent effects from dry-socket and not treating it sooner.

Answers:
No, just intense pain until it fills in, but I suspect you already know about that.

i have had 2 of them,i don't seem to have any lasting effects. the treatment is nasty. the dentist will pack your socket with a foul tasting ointment on a gauze. should heal in a few days. good luck
Dry Sockets do not cause permanent damage but they do cause severe pain. chances are if you can't breathe with out crying you have one and well drugs my friend lots of drugs
I had a tooth removed and it became infected antibiodics sleared it but a dry socket remained. It was very painfull for a week after that it healed over with no lasting effects. A dentist can repair the dry socket if you so wish.,
NO permanent damage, but I feel sorry for you. I had 2 dry sockets when I got my wisdom teeth removed. I didn't know better, so waited over a week before seeking help. The relief from my oral surgeon was immediate. See them ASAP.
Not really. The socket will heal much slower and it might not fill ALL THE WAY to the top, but overall, there is no harm done in the long run.
nope no pain afterwards, the only long lasting effects could be a loss of feeling in the jaw or other parts of the face
