How is saliva produced?
Answers:
Saliva is produced by various saliva glands in the mouth: Parotid, Submaxillary and Sublingual. These are the main ones but there are other minor ones in the inner cheek area and even the inner lip area. Saliva is produced in response to food, particularly sour and salty substances. However, we also produce saliva without the presence of food. It is imprtant for maintaining the health of the oral cavity (mouth), tongu and teeth. Without saliva our teeth would rot. Our saliva under optimum health conditions is like a buffer against tooth decay. Rarely stones or other disease conditions are produced in saliva glands, causing pain and swelling in these glands.
