Numbness after Wisdom Teeth extraction, 2 months ago. Nerve Damaged?
I am suffering from Paresthesia (abnormal sensation of numbness) on part of my lip, and 3 teeth. The dentist says that since I am experiencing a little bit of tingling, the nerve has not been damaged. Should I be looking for a second opinion? And if nerve is damaged, can I have it repaired? I can't eat, smile or talk the same as before and it it becoming very annoying.

Since you are experiencing a little bit of tingling this is a good thing.
That means there is a very high chance that the nerve will repair itself. Your dentist is quite right. This happens at least once to all dentist doing complicated extractions. The first time it happens it can be quite unsettling for the Dr. and the Patient, but eventually the feeling does return. What is happening is the nerve endings in the nerve sheeth need to grow back down the little channel and recconect. It is very a very slow process, as long as some tingling is there there is a path to follow. The amount of time it can take for the tingly sensation to go away can be quite long.
Hang in there this is a predictable but infrequent complication. It happens all the time.
I would definitely look into getting a second opinion. If it has already been two months, then there may be a problem. Is your dentist a regular dentist or an oral surgeon? If he's just a dentist, try and find an oral surgeon to talk to instead..wisdom teeth are one of their specialties.
Well nerve damage may be reversible or irreversible(without any surgical intervention, may come back to its normal state or may not come back to its normal state) which mainly depends on the extend of damage.Severe damage may result in mostly irreversible(luckily sometimes reversible) damage. While very slight nerve damage may result in reversible damage. There were cases where nerve damaged during surgeries caused parasthesia but in a few days it came bac to its normal state thus indicating reversibility of the damage.
There may also be few other reasons for abnormal sensation besides nerve damage.
and I cant say any thing about treatment because I dont know your condition
I dont know what your condition is so I cant give you any proper advise but if I were you I would have got myself another opinion from a dentist who is specialized in oral surgery(oral surgeon) or someother good dentist
