Has anyone tried the new laser/"painless" dentistry?

Is it really less painful? I need a root canal and wanted to try it.

Answers:
I had painless laser dentistry done while on vacation in Hong Kong YEARS ago! I don't think they have the strict FDA guidelines over there.

I think the best thing was the lack of that drilling sound! It sounded more like soft air suction and was 100% painless - pretty amazing!

Even if you decided to opt for "regular" dentistry, the only real pain you will feel is actually a very tiny "ant bite" type pain during administration of the amide based anesthetic injection.

After you're sufficiently numb, you shouldn't feel any pain during the extraction process, just some pressure.

Talk to your dentist. Usually it is the fear of the unknown that plays havoc on your mind, not the actual "pain" itself. So, arm yourself with information. The foll. websites might put your mind at rest:

I think it's called "air abrasion." My dentist doesn't do it @ her office but I know a lot of others do. I heard u can only use it 4 tiny cavities though and sometimes u do actually feel pain bc it's so cold and stuff. W/ a root canal you'll probably have 2 do the regular anesthetic shot, but don't worry it only pinches a bit (unless it's ur front tooth, which will hurt much more bc it feels like ur getting a needle stuck up ur nose).
We have a laser, and you can not do root canals with it. We use it for very minor cavities, and tissue removal. Find a experienced DDS. The Laser is not that advanced yet.
