What to do about the #14 tooth?
Answers:
There are several options that you might be presented with. You might be able to do crown lengthening, endo (root canal), post and core and a crown, this would be if you wanted to do everything to save your tooth. Bridge from 13-15 is an option if you want to get your tooth extracted. Implant is also an option (bone height has to be adequate), this option is becoming more of the standard of care in dentistry now. If you got an implant you would be able to floss it and take care of it like a regular tooth and they last a lot longer than a bridge, which only lasts about 10-15 years. Implants are a lot more expensive then a bridge. So if money is an issue the most economical choice is a bridge.
As far as your teeth shifting, that will most likely happen if you don't replace the missing space with somthing.
The best thing to do, if it's still possible, is to do a root canal and a crown. You'd have to discuss this with your dentist. If it can't be saved anymore, and there is substantial decay on #13 & #15 then yes, a bridge would be great. I always feel bad when folks get bridges done and the retaining teeth ( in your case #13 & #15) were perfect, because you are working on teeth that don't need to be touched. If the #13 & #15 are in pretty good shape, discuss getting an implant done with your dentist or oral surgeon. Hope this info. helps. Good luck
Maybe a root canal is an option to save the tooth. Extraction is always the last option if you are looking for long term success. An implant is also a suggestion that does not involve destroying healthy tooth structure on #13 and #15. Ask your dentist for their opinion and ask for a referral for an oral surgeon who can talk to you about an implant.
