Braces Question 4 Anyone But Especially Orthos?
Since ur archwire is activated by the warm temperature of ur mouth environment, would eating hot foods (in temperature that is) b a problem?
Answers:
No it's not a problem. The wire is activated by body heat, but only to a point. You can't increase the force of the wire by increasing the temperature. It will only exert a given amount of force regardless of how hot it gets. It can get hot enough to reduce the amount of force it generates, but that would be too hot for you to put in your mouth.
When I had braces I ate/drank what I wanted to (including gum sadly) and nothing bad ever happened.
I wouldnt eat extremely hot foods just stick to the instructions the ortho gave you
It's not a problem. There's no reason to be forced to eat only cold foods for that duration.
