Freaking Braces!?

My bottom rubber bands keep coming off. Then the archwire comes out of the spacer thing and jabs my cheeks. I try to put it back in place..sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Then the wire goes under the ruberbandless bracket and that hurts. Twice now I've given up and taken all the rubber bands off and taken off the archwire. Then those brackets cut the crap out of my bottom lip! My ortho just tells me to deal with it and use wax. I use the wax and it helps but is so annoying. Did anybody have braces and found a solution to this problem? Whats the best thing to do?

Dude that sucks! I just got braces but I've never had nor heard of anything like that.I think the dental assistant (or ortho, depending on where u went) didn't put ur archwire and elastic o's on properly bc as a patient ur not supposed 2 have 2 worry about those things! I'd call the office and go in 2 get it all fixed.

You poor thing! I do sympathise with you. I had braces when I was about 14 and I still remember the wire ripping through my gums.

I just persevered with that horrible wax..
At your next appointment ask the Doctor if he can cinch the wire in the back to prevent it from pulling out of the bracket. This means the wire will be left long, then bent down, this may help.
At your next appointment, ask your orthodontist to use wire ties. That should help, although I'm not sure why the rubber o's keep coming off. It may have something to do with the size of the archwire. If the archwire is small and flexible and you are putting excessive pressure on it when you eat or brush it will come out of the tubes on your back teeth and could pop the o's of your brackets.

Something else to consider. When you take that wire out, you are undoing the work that has been done up to that point, because your teeth move back into their previous postion. Even though you find the wax to be annoying, it may be your best bet for the time being.

Good luck. It will get better.
