Post root canal pain. Is this normal ?
Answers:
To remove the nerve the dentist has to use instruments called 'reamers', they're like little files that are put into your root(s) to remove the nerve. the dentist has to start with the smallest reamer and then keep going up in size. So what normally happens is once the numbness wears off, the tooth tends to get worse before it gets better. Take some ibuprofen which is good for dental pain. Once you have the second stage of your root canal complete, again you might experience some mild pain for a few days but then it will settle down completely. Root canal has a very high success rate.
you still have some of the nerve in, it takes a couple of sessions to get the whole thing out.Thats why you have a temporary filling,
been there, done that, never again
you have my sympathy
Yes, it's because there is still part of a root that is very "angry" and alive. Once it is removed, the canal is filled and you get your crown, it shouldn't cause any more problems. Unless you have a deep infection that isn't treated, then it will cause throbbing, aching pain until it is treated, too.
I am thinking that they didn't get all of the nerve killed. I didn't have any pain after mine. In fact I finally was pain free and could eat.
I would advise you to contact your dentist as soon as you can, if you are having tooth pain.
Maybe it had infection in it and your antibiotic has not healed it yet.
Can you rinse with salt water that will help it heal. (If the Dr. says it is OK. salt water rinses every 30 min. helped me.
Yeah, they didn't really finish killing the nerve yet. They should finish it in the next session. It hopefully hurts less than it did before the endodontist started on it. Call your endodontist for suggestions for medicines to take such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen to stop the swelling.
Most likely your dentist rooted the wrong tooth!! It happens fairly often. You will no doubt want to see him about it!
This can be quite common are having a root canal, when the dentist carries out root canal he/she uses small hand held files to remove the nerve and has to go deep inside the canals and down into the apex of the tooth, the apex is the very end of the tooth, some times the whole nerve is not removed and a tiny remainder may be left behind.
When my dentist carries out RCT he uses an apex locator, this beeps when he reaches the end of the apex and he knows he has gone as far as he can and has removed the whole of the nerve!
A medicated temporary filling is then placed over the top to prevent any saliva and bacteria from leaking back into the tooth and triggering off an infection.
Take your normal pain killers, we normally suggest using nurofen as it acts as a anti inflammatory and will help reduce any swelling which may occur.
The pain you're experiencing is normal. Your dentist did a lot of work and now your tooth is mad. I had a bad experience with my dentist giving me a root canal. Three months went by and I was still having pain. I couldn't sleep on my left side. He kept saying I was biting down wrong and kept filing down the permanent crown. I kept telling him it didn't feel any better after he filed it. He ended up pulling the darn tooth, thinking then that it might be a cracked root. I spent over $500 out of pocket on that darn root canal for nothing. He then gave me the prices of either a bridge or implant.. my portion would have been over $800 for the bridge and over $2,000 for the implant!! That's after the insurance paid. I immediatley got suspicious that he was just after my insurance money (and mine) so I opted not to do either. The tooth was far enough back where you can't see the gap when I smile, but I'm still very angry that I went three months in pain.
this is not normal, although people think it is,and after some time it may settle down. I recommend French dentists because they are in advance in dental care.I continually hear about pain being normal in dental care I have had a few root canal treatments and the one that I had on the NHS was very painful I have had one privately and it was a waste of money. I have suffered so much at the hands of dentists in this country its unbelievable, I have even been hospitalised because of a dentist,I have met many people who have suffered also.when I was in the maxofacial department they wonted to take my tooth out,but I have had so many out already that I found the strength to discharge myself and by recommendation go and see a French dentist; He saved my tooth and treated me unlike any dentist have treated me before he was really gentle, I knew then that I would never have dental pain again. The French dentist said if possible always save the tooth, and pain is not normaI.I had root canal treatments from the French dentist with no pain at all.French dentistry changed my life.
Get the 'iciLondres' magazine to get a list of French dentists in this country.I have checked on the web and I could not find the magazine so I do not know where you can get it .its possible that there are other ways to find a French dentist.
