Answers:
Implants are the 1st choice of replacing a missing tooth. When finished it will look identical to surrounding teeth and be much stronger. General pricing is noted below but on a front tooth a certain amount of tissue/bone augmentation may also be required (additional $).
I would recommend a periodontist verses an oral surgeon as periodontist are more adept at making the tissue look perfect.
Cost in U.S for implant: $1,500 - 2,500.
Cost for crown on top of implant: $900-2,500.
Cost for abutment (connects implant to crown) $200-600
It differs due to where in the country it is but the cost of an implant is usually around 2000-2500 dollars. I have four and am as broke as I can be.
Cost varies in different places. you could try dental tourism sites for india. u get good treatment and your whole expense - travel, visa to india and treatment will be less than the amount u spend, if u r in the states.. plus. u get a good rest and vacation
Peace!
forget implants, they are painful for months afterward very expensive and not functional, but purely cosmtic. have yourself a parcil plate made instead and save yourself needless pain and expenses. implants were designed primarly to enrich dentist.
The implant would be from $1,500 to $2,000, but that's just for the implant. You need to have the implant restored with something or it's useless. ONE implant is typically restored with a crown, but that is a two-part deal. First you get what is called the abutment and sticks out above your gums. That can cost from $500 to $1,000 depending on whether you can use a pre-fab abutment or if it has to be custom made and what the fees are in your area. Once you have the abutment, you need a crown and that fee should be pretty much the same as a crown on a regular tooth. That would be from about $750 to $1,000 or maybe more in some areas. This means the total would range from about $2,750 to $4,000 depending on several factors. I'd say the average single tooth implant restored with a crown in New Jersey might be about $3,000.
It is possible that your bone at the extraction site might need augmentation and that would cost somewhat more. The extraction, if it's a "routine" extraction might cost from $100-150 and the augmentation could cost just as much as the basic extraction.
You did not mention any temporary replacement of #8 while the site heals. Sometimes it is possible to place an implant the day of the extraction, but not often. If you don't want to go around with a gap dead center in your mouth, you will want a temporary partial (a "flipper") to replace the tooth for a few months while the area heals and during the implant proceedings. This would cost from $500 to $800 in most areas. If I am doing a flipped for a patient who the proceeds with an implant, I will generally reduce part of the implant fee as a way of reducing the impact of paying for the denture.
As far as the answer from houdini who did not have a good outcome, I am sorry about that, houdini, but sometimes s#it happens and everything doesn't go as expected. Implants are better than 95% successful and those implants are totally functional. Things can go wrong with the surgery or the patient might not be the best candidate in the first place. Heavy smokers and diabetics are not great candidates for implants in the first place, for instance.
As far as Tom's answer suggesting a trip to India, I am sure there are excellent dentists in India, but how in the world would anyone know how to find one? Please include the cost of a return trip to India in case you need follow-up care if things do not go exactly as planned.
I'm very sorry that "houdini" had a bad implant experience, but the advice given is misleading and inaccurate.
Implants are not purely cosmetic, nor are they done to enrich dentists. They are becoming the "standard of care" for replacing missing teeth.
There are many advantages of implants over other methods such as fixed bridges and partial dentures, most importantly preventing bone loss.

If the tooth is tooth #8 that is to be taken out, that is a wisdom tooth at the very back of your mouth. It is normal to have the 8's extracted as they usually come in on an angle (impacted) and tend to push all of the other teeth forward. Since it is a tooth at the back of your mouth it may not be necessary to replace it. (most patients won't as it does not cause any problems to NOT replace it) However, if you do want it replace with an implant, it is usually much cheaper to have this treatment done at a dental school (approx.$1600. Can.) where students do the actual work but it is overseen by licenced dentists. Check to see if there is one near you and ask about the total cost for the procedure and the amount of time to have it done. You might also want to ask if there is a waiting list to get in.
Good luck, I hope this info helps.
This is what it would cost in my office:
Extraction: $278.00
Bone grafting: $300.00
Implant: $1650.00
Crown: $1250.00
Total $3478.00
MSDUCKCA is absolutely wrong, and this is why I wish that people seeking advice would only listen to the actual dental professionals on here. #8 is not a wisdom tooth. It is the right front tooth(As I am sure you already knew). Wisdom teeth would never be replaced with an implant.
Although the average cost for dental implant in the US would work out to USD 3000.00 as elaborated by Dr. Sam, I do agree with Toms 146. You may try India specific search for Affordable Dental Treatment and Tourism. A top dentist in India or Thailand would charge for top quality dental implant and porcelain crown in the range of USD 900.00 and USD 300.00, respectively. With only one dental implant, the saving can be enjoyed in the form of luxury holiday for free.
