Retainer Help?

alright i have my retainer for about 6 months and i know after six months you have to change the frequency of usage. I've lost the paper telling me what to do, so after the first six months do you wear it one day yes one day no or is it only for the night?

Answers:
Both of my kids were told every night as they sleep for the rest of their lives or the teeth will shift back and they will have to get braces again.
