Will food getting stuck into wisdom teeth removal site cause dry socket?
I got my wisdom teeth out today and i was told to eat ice cream however i can see one of the sprinkles is lodged in one of the bottom holes, will i get dry socket?
Answers:
did your dentist give you any mouthwash to rinse with? if he didnt, i would go get some listerine from the drug store and swish your mouth with listerine 4-5 times a day to keep the mouth clean and to help keep particles out of your old wisdom teeth sites. if he did give you some mouthwash (called chlorhexidine) then i would swish with it as directed (i actually used it about 4-5 times a day) to prevent dry socket. did your dentist give you a syringe with a curved tip on it? if he didnt, maybe go back and ask for a curved tip syringe for irrigating your sockets out - you put water or mouthwash in the syringe which has a special curved tip which reaches the back of your mouth and gets right into those sockets.doing this every time after you eat is really good for keeping food particles and stuff out of the sockets and really helps reduce your risk of dry socket.
You probably won't, but it could still cause irritation/infection. When I had mine out, my dentist gave me this syringe that I used to squirt water into the hole to get out food that was stuck. A water pick would also work. I would try that, just be gentle because I'm sure it's gonna be a little sore.
No, dry socket is when the blood clot that is covering the wound dislodges. Food can cause an infection though. Try gargling with salt water.
its much too early to tell that although tommorow id gargle with a tad of salt water good luck
DO NOT SWISH w/ mouthwash. You can doslodge the blood clots and develop dry sockets. Gently move water around your mouth to try and dislodge it and if it does not come out wait a day or so then rinse. Usually dry sockets are caused by the blood clots getting dislodged from the area. IE: sucking through a straw. Your oral surgeon should have given you instructions before you left
no..but you should rinse it out
Sweetie you can eat ice cream but only if it plan. You can always clean it out with peroxide.Yes it would hurt but it will do the job.
When I got my wisdom teeth removed, I just ate soft food, but it still got stuck in those holes, which started to irritate me after a while. You should call the surgeon, explain to them that food is getting stuck there and ask for a plastic syringe to flush out this area, or ask them to clean the area for you. My surgeon flushed out the area and then put some kind of clove oil in the holes. I'll admit that that was really nasty when I eventually flushed that out the next day or so. I don't think they want you to flush out this area right after surgery, because it may cause dry socket, so that is why they won't give you the syringe when you're done with the surgery. You have to ask for it. Don't do anything until you call the person who performed the extraction, because you may make it worse.
no, unless you are eating dirty food which might cause infection. avoid sucking on it. tooth socket heals outwardly so no problem of the food debry being enclosed by your gums as they heal. mouthwash is advisable. dont worry much.
