What is the step by step process for Dentures?
I need info on step by step process for dentures, What do they do. How long will that person be without teeth?
Answers:
There are removable partial dentures and complete dentures. There are 4 different types of complete dentures: "standard dentures", "immediate dentures", "implant retained dentures", and "Cu-Sil dentures".
I am only showing the steps for standard complete dentures (from patients point of view):
1.The first appointment consists of an oral examination, sometimes X-Rays, and a set of impressions of the upper and lower edentulous (toothless) ridges (gums). Surgical alteration is determined here.
2. The second appointment is making the master impression with Custom Impression Trays.
3. The third appointment consists of deciding how "long" to make the teeth, determining the plane of the tooth setup and the correct relationship of the upper and lower teeth (jaw relation records)
4. The fourth appointment is called the "wax try-in". The wax try-in looks just like a real denture, except that the base fits loosely on the gums, and the teeth are embedded in wax instead of plastic.
5. The final appointment is the insertion date when the patient walks out of the office with new dentures.
Additionally, one or more adjustment appointments are needed as the dentures "settle in" and the patient begins to function more efficiently.
How long will that person be without teeth? it really depends how fast the bone heals, the dentist's skill, the efficiency of the dental laboratories and etc. It usually takes 2-3 months from extraction to delivery.
It would depend on if you need to have some teeth removed. You can get your dentures in one day they make an impression of your gums and make the teeth in their lab.
